Decorated Naval Officer and fighter pilot Mike Garcia appears headed for another election victory in November
This November, voters in California’s 25th Congressional District have a chance to elect Mike Garcia for the second time this year. Garcia, a decorated Naval Officer who flew over 30 combat missions in Operation Iraqi Freedom, won a May 12 special election and is favored to win re-election in November.
The 25th CD, which includes northern Los Angeles County and eastern Ventura County, had been won by the Democrats in 2018 by a 54% to 46% margin. But after a scandal caused the Democratic incumbent to resign, Garcia reversed the tables, flipping the seat to the Republican side in the May 12, 2020 special election by 55% to 45%. That’s a swing of 9 points from Democrat to Republican, which bodes well for this November.
Garcia, who is 44 years old and of Mexican ancestry, joined the Navy in 1998, becoming one of the Navy’s first F/A-18 Super Hornet strike fighter pilots.
